Intervene combines creative thinking with process and project implementation. Intervene's work is applied across scales and geographies with a focus in industries that rely on ongoing creativity to compete We have organized our services by the primary scale of the work - systemic, organizational or individual/team. However, common elements and approaches define our practice.
We focus on ideas that are rooted in perspectives that others are missing because they don’t see the potential today (or at all). External perspectives require reaching outside of industries, disciplines, geographies, and cultures. We believe that breakthroughs will come from networks of people who can bring together and re-combine different ideas and concepts from diverse domains. If the answers were already there, you would have found them.
Our interventions ask people to think about alternative perspectives, interpretations, or hypotheses and are effective at generating new insights while shaking overconfidence and inducing greater realism. We focus on engagement and the emotional component of design, improvement, and change.
System-wide action on complex challenges.
Systemic design services support system-wide action on complex challenges. We serve as both a creative partner and project backbone so that diverse stakeholders can work together more effectively to address a shared and complex issue such as hope and hopelessness, decolonization of service organizations, or economic inequality. We advocate for a humanizing of systems that increases self-reliance in the short and long-term.
Breaking up routines and reorganizing to try new things.
Intervene accompanies partner organizations as they examine the routines and behaviours that make adaptation difficult and support new activities that increase the organization's capacity to succeed. This often involves an intentional 'disorganizing' of existing structures and a 'reorganizing' into new forms better suited for the current environment. Ultimately, our clients bridge the gap between what is true and what is expected.
Workshops and programs to build capacity.
Through workshops and leadership programs, Intervene builds the capacity of individuals and teams to deal with uncertainty and work across boundaries. Systemic development is often combined with design and consulting work to ensure scale and duration. Work with the Creative Strategies Incubator, the School for Social Entrepreneurs, and at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity has allowed individuals and teams to carry their impact forward.
